Partnerships

We asked members of our community if they thought foundations and organizations are helpful for cancer patients. 31% said they were unsure what these types of organizations could do for cancer patients.

Believe it or not, foundations such as the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Paul Foundation do more than you may think.

Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF)

The Lymphoma Research Foundation’s mission is to:

1. Eradicate lymphoma

2. Serve those touched by this disease

Eradicating lymphoma through research

Founded in 1995, LRF has contributed over $67 million in lymphoma-specific research. LRF's narrow focus on lymphoma gives it an advantage to conduct further research on all 100+ subtypes.

Serving those touched by Lymphoma

LRF has many resources for patients and others affected. Some of these resources include:

  • LRF helpline

  • peer support and connection

  • financial support

  • clinical trials

  • fact sheets

  • webinars

  • fundraisers

  • Living with Lymphoma podcast to hear stories of fellow patients and survivors

Visit the link below to more fully understand what LRF can do for affected young adults.

The Paul Foundation

Paul Walker Schaffel, a college senior, was misdiagnosed with infectious mononucleosis (mono), then Hodgkin Lymphoma, and finally non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, for which he was treated in December 2011. Unfortunately, Schaffel’s true diagnosis was anaplastic large T-cell Lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. His treatment was not specific enough for the type of Lymphoma he had.  Paul insisted on graduating with his peers and continued school during chemotherapy. He graduated with honors in May 2012. Paul was accepted to Harvard Law School, but passed away shortly after receiving his undergraduate degree.

We urge patients and doctors to give and receive second opinions, so that young people like Paul can receive proper treatment. With further research, the Paul Foundation and LRF can help save more lives. Paul helped revolutionize what it means to be a young person with cancer, and this foundation in his honor helps AYA today.
